Is NIOS valid for colleges in Canada? We should firstly know about the NIOS.
NIOS (National Institute of Open Schools) has been established across India with the Central government’s mission to facilitate the best education to the students at their secondary level as well the senior secondary level. It allows the students to get open learning which is an alternative to the formal system of schooling in India.
In 1979, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) started a great project in the direction of providing open schooling to Indian students. In 1986, the National Policy on Education suggested the important steps that should be taken for strengthening the Open School System to offer open learning facilities to more and more students. They aimed to spread the facilities of open learning in a phased manner at the secondary level across the country. The open school system started to work in the different parts of the country independently. It designed its own academic as well as co-curricular activities curriculum that was completely different from the other government/private boards of the country. It started a convenient examination procedure to provide valid certificates to the passed students.
For extending this system more across the country, the Ministry of India (MOE) under the guidance of the Central Government of India founded the National Open School (NOS) in 1989. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was also working on the project of the open schools simultaneously. Both the open schools’ project of the CBSE Board and the NOS were joined to expand the open school system. Through a Resolution (No. F. 5 24/90 sch.3 dated 14 September 1990 published in the Gazette of India on 20 October 1990), the National Open School (NOS) was given the right to register, certify and examine the students for their pre-degree level courses. In 2002, the Ministry of Education (MOE) did some amendments to the culture of the National Open School (NOS) and it was transformed into the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
